Tracking the Evolution of Genetic Control Elements in the Brain Using AI
With the help of artificial intelligence, it is possible to trace the evolution of genetic control elements in the developing cerebellum of mammals. An international research team led by biologists from Heidelberg University, the Vlaams Instituut voor Biotechnologie, and KU Leuven (Belgium) has developed advanced AI models for this purpose. These models are capable of predicting the activity of these elements based solely on their DNA sequence. This enabled the scientists to retrace the evolutionary changes in the control programs and identify those elements that are specific to the human lineage.
