A new study led by the University of Hawaiʻi at Mānoa shows that pressure on the San Andreas and San Jacinto fault systems has reached its highest level in the past 1,000 years. There has not been a major earthquake in the Los Angeles region for over a century. According to the researchers, the Cajon Pass in particular—a critical junction of both faults—could trigger a simultaneous rupture.
